Muskegon blows out Mona Shores to clinch OK Black title

Muskegon picked up an easy 91-40 win to clinch yet another OK Black conference championship under Keith Guy, their 7th straight.

When asked if it gets old, Guy said “No, winning and also winning championships never gets old…to win the last OK Black title, we’ll go in the history books for doing that, we’re just thankful to god to have the opportunity to do it.”

Muskegon opened the game slow, as Mona Shores led midway through the first quarter, but they were able to catch fire, as the Big Reds went on a 16-2 run to close out the quarter with a 19-6 lead. The rest of the first half was all Big Reds and they took a 42-18 lead into the locker room.

At the start of the third quarter, the Sailors came out hot, going on a 10-2 run to pull within 16. The comeback effort was short-lived however, as Muskegon got hot again to end the quarter on a 22-5 run.

In the final quarter, mostly reserves played for the Big Reds, but they still managed to outscore Shores 25-7, leading to the final score.

Vern Nash led Muskegon with 22 points and Ahmon Dean led Mona Shores with 10 points. The win brings the Big Reds to 15-2 on the season and the loss brings the Sailors to 3-15.

Mona Shores also clinched last place in the OK Black.
