During her press briefing today in Lansing today, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer called on the MHSAA to consider shuffling sports for the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19.
She is asking that high risk fall sports where it is virtually impossible to maintain social distancing, such as football, boys soccer, and girls volleyball be moved to the spring, while low risk spring sports are moved to the fall, including boys golf, girls tennis, and track and field. You can watch the statement at in the video at the bottom of this article.
Whitmer also stated that she is expecting a decision from the MHSAA around July 20th-25th.
Could we have a football state championship in June this year? How would this affect recruiting in all sports by having a different schedule than the rest of the nation? We will have to wait and see.
