The MHSAA announced Thursday afternoon that fall football has been reinstated. Practices will begin September 8th and competition can begin September 17th.

All hope seemed lost for a fall season on August 14th when the MHSAA’s Council voted to push fall football to the spring. Now, in a remarkable turn of events, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer released executive order 176 that lifted restrictions that previously did not allow the sport to be played.

Teams will play a shortened version of their original schedules (Weeks 4-9) and then play a 6 game playoffs that allows each team in the state to qualify. This was done to not penalize teams that are forced into quarantine due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The state finals will be held on December 4th and 5th, it is unknown if it will still be held at Ford Field in Detroit.
